Heleen Kleiboer

I am a freelance translator who has made a lifelong passion for (video) games into their job. I have a master’s degree in translation from Utrecht University and a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from Leiden University. Add over 8 years of translation experience and a lifetime of gaming experience to that and you get a professional and skilled translator to make sure your game is as good in Dutch as it is in English.

I am also an avid reader and enjoy puzzles, board and card games. I have been lucky enough to translate some puzzle books and edit a couple of card games too! You’ll find more information about these in my portfolio.

What I’m playing

My personal favourite video game of all time is Dragon Age: Origins, partly out of nostalgia (it was my first fantasy RPG!) and partly because it’s still a wonderful game.

Fantasy RPGs are my favourite genre and I have also greatly enjoyed Diviny: Original Sin II, the newer Dragon Age games and The Witcher 3, amongst others. At the moment (and for the foreseeable future) I am playing through Baldur’s Gate 3!

Games in other genres I’m currently into are Hades, Disco Elysium, Outer Wilds and all of the Ace Attorney franchise.
